Whipping cream is a thick cream emulsified for the water content to hold air and not deflate as quickly. This kind of cream can be whipped if desired. In addition, it contains at least 30% fat, making it rich enough to set while still producing a lighter and more durable cream.

What Is Whipped Cream?

In its classic form, whipped cream is heavy cream that has been whipped to a fluffy and airy consistency. The whipping adds air into the mixture, allowing the cream to rise and stand on its own. Plus, the 36% fat content makes it delicate and light when whipped.

Aside from the usage and texture, one noteworthy distinction between these two is the ingredients. Whipped cream contains one primary component, usually 36% milk fat. 

And some whipped cream products include powdered sugar, vanilla, chocolate, or lemon zest for added flavor. For example, whipped cream flavored with vanilla is known as Chantilly cream. It’s rich and adds tons of flavor to dishes.  

As for whipping cream, its key ingredients include a mix of milk and fat that makes up a 30% fat concentration.
